Sustainability at Authenteco Travel

At Authenteco Travel, we believe in the positive influence travel can have on the world’s ecosystems, communities, and environments.

Through years of tried and tested techniques, we’ve learned how to travel to even the world’s most remote destinations without leaving anything but footprints.

Travel creates empathy and understanding.

It inspires and educates.

It allows human-to-human connection and nurtures the human-to-nature connection that the world needs now and until the end of time.

This is how we do sustainable travel.

Community Impact

Our trip planning process encompasses over 1000 well-thought-out steps, all of which have the communities, ecosystems, and environments you visit at the forefront of our minds.

  • Your accommodations are always going to be locally owned and managed by the locals. We stay away from big chains, allowing us to send money back into the community and aid in providing the locals with ample job opportunities.

  • Where possible, our accommodations are always smaller than 20 rooms for a more private experience, and to assist with cutting down on emissions and waste

  • Every accommodation we select has sustainable initiatives such as solar power, rain-water usage, or farm-to-table initiatives where food is grown on-site.

  • When booking flights and rental cars, we always do emission offsets to limit our footprint

  • Where possible, we select local transport, including trains, buses, cable cars, or trams. This gives our travelers the chance to experience destinations the authentic way.

  • We connect with all of our hand-selected businesses well in advance to ensure we are a mutual fit.

  • All the local businesses we support are carefully selected after passing through our rigorous checklist. This not only ensures they are going to be the best option for our travelers, but also allows us to ensure they are not greenwashing (saying they are eco-friendly when they aren’t). We meet with these suppliers to test them for ourselves before choosing them for our travelers.

  • Plus so much more!

Remote Business

Authenteco Travel is a 100% remote business that currently employs people across three continents around the world. We always put our employees first, ensuring they consistently have the resources to work remotely and at the best of their ability.

Remote work means we have the ability to reduce the need for a large office footprint and enable our employees to work from anywhere in the world.

Want to work outdoors and take your lunch breaks on the ski hills in the Swiss Alps? No problem.

Or how about working in the fjords in Iceland while spending every second day wandering through the stunning land of ice and fire and rejuvenating in private thermal pools at the base of old volcanoes? Sounds like a treat.

Or what about spending your evenings working by starlight in a glamping tent so you can get up early and do a sunrise hike in the heart of New Zealand? Go for it!

Our employees have a flexible work-life balance and are not required to be tied to one location. This also means they do not need to spend hours a day commuting to work. While this ultimately means more money in our employees' pockets, it frees up more of their time. It allows them to enjoy the benefits of traveling and living in different locations worldwide.

Removing the commute frees time to get more work done, get more rest and sleep, explore the world more, spend more time with their loved ones, and be more effective and productive during the work day.

The positive environmental impact of removing the need to work in an office environment is also a huge benefit to a remote business. The fossil fuels that are used by employees going to and from the office are saved. This helps preserve the atmosphere, helps mitigate climate change, and delays rising temperatures.

Reduce, reuse, recycle.

Authenteco is proud of our ability to support small businesses that align with our values and beliefs.

When you book a trip with us, we’ll fully customize it so that it’s exactly what you want without you having to deal with the stress. Then, we package it up and deliver it to your doorstep with a box full of artisanal gifts so you can treat yourself before you even get to your destination.

  • We use 100% recycled shipping boxes, mailing tape, and shreds from local Denver business EcoEnclose. These can be composted when our travelers discard them.

  • All stickers are made on recycled material with eco-friendly ink from sustainable business StickerGiant

  • We support local small businesses run usually by small families, including artists and designers local to the areas you are visiting.

  • We only order products we need to avoid wasted inventory. All orders are on a per-traveler basis.

  • Depending on where our traveler lives, we’ll ship items to our local team member to fulfill the order and avoid unnecessary emissions (eg. West coast or East coast team member).

  • We prioritize reusable items such as a custom reusable coffee mug for your morning coffee or a tote bag for your shopping. All items are purchased from small businesses.

  • We use recycled paper in our magazines when available and are currently searching for a plant-based ink provider local to Colorado.

  • We reuse packaging received by items shipped to us from small businesses. This might include wrapping paper, shipping boxes, envelopes, or packaging peanuts/shreds.).

Supporting the Environment

WE ARE ON A MISSION TO EARN $50 MILLION BY 2030, SO WE CAN PURCHASE AND PROTECT ENDANGERED ECOSYSTEMS AROUND THE WORLD.

Using our itineraries, articles, and magazines, we educate our travelers on how to reduce their impact on the environments they visit.

Every magazine arrives filled to the brim with travel advice, information about their trip, unique destination information, and the positive impact they will have on the businesses they support.

We also fill every magazine with handy tips about traveling more sustainably.

Our goal is to educate and encourage our travelers to protect the environments and ecosystems they explore.

This includes educating them on the benefits of:

  • Reusable water bottles

  • Beach clean-ups

  • Reducing plastic waste

  • Exploring national parks - your entry fees contribute to preserving nature

  • Eating locally grown farm-to-table meals, ethically-caught meats, or trying vegetarian cuisine on your trip

  • Not purchasing souvenirs made from endangered plants or animals

  • Ethical animal treatment practices (ensuring zoos, sanctuaries, and other animal encounters will be ethical)

  • Plus so much more!
